The Picture Show Man - Movies in the Park

The Picture Show Man also known as Movies in the Park is Melbourne’s favourite mobile cinema for outdoor and indoor movie shows. We have been showing movies around Melbourne since 2001 and have entertained many people at many venues in that time. The Picture Show Man is a reliable friendly family company, very conscious of OH&S and with full Work Cover and Public Liability Insurance cover.

Equipment and Format

The Picture Show Man started the tradition of mobile cinema with 16mm reel to reel film and as technology has progressed, so has The Picture Show Man. The Picture Show Man now uses DVD format with the latest technology using Barco projection equipment, powered speakers and inflatable screen. Using our Barco projection equipment and our inflatable screen we are able to project from the rear of the screen. This allows all of our cabling and equipment to be kept back of house and out of the public area, which in these days of OH&S is extremely important. If required, we can front project in DVD or 16mm film format, in which case we use cable covers and high safety standards.

Sponsors Advertising/Short Film Festivals

The Picture Show Man has the capacity using our professional VHS switching console to insert sponsors advertising or switch between short films and a live commentator for short film art house shows.

Announcements

The Picture Show Man can also provide a microphone for announcements or commentary with a cord mic, handheld mic, lapel or head set mic. Just talk to us about your requirements at the time of booking.

Movies

Choosing a movie can be lots of fun. When choosing a movie make a short list of 4 or 5 of your favourite movies. Most movies of a G and PG rating are available for outdoor screening once they leave the major cinemas. When you have chosen your desired movies we will, with your assistance, complete the screening application form and apply for screening permission from the movie distribution company. Movies are subject to licensing and copyright - you cannot show movies from the local DVD store for a public showing.

Booking Your Outdoor/Indoor Cinema

To make a booking, we will require your list of preferred movies, your application form and a $375.00 plus GST deposit. This deposit will secure your booking and is non refundable. Cancellations due to inclement weather and other reasons must be made by 1.30pm on the day of the screening or by 10am for screenings outside Melbourne. If your cancellation is due to inclement weather and is cancelled by the above times you can rebook your screening subject to our availability on your chosen date.

What is Required for Movies in the Park

A venue suitable to accommodate your audience, keeping in mind the following:

Enough lighting for everyone to move around safely without too much light that it will washout the movie on the screen
Proximity to roads, if you have small children in the audience
Availability of toilets. You may have to hire in toilets if there are none in the area (we can assist with this if required)

What do We Require

Power – we will require mains power accessible to the rear of the screen or a 5KVA silenced stabilized generator – if you do not have power we can supply power at reasonable cost.

Area to Set Up Screen

We require an area to set up the screen approximately 12 metres wide by 12 metres deep.
The area needs to be reasonably flat and suitable to peg into the ground, if pegging is not suitable we can discuss the alternatives. This area needs to be easily accessible by a normal car.
